Identities, Perceptions, and Care
Pat Tetreault, PhD, MLS

Identities, perceptions, and care will address identities as a mosaic, including information on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex/gender assigned at birth.  Issues facing marginalized identities will be highlighted, including important concepts to consider such as coming out and minority stress.  What we can do to help, including the use of inclusive language, and inclusive policies and practices, will be touched upon.

Participants will learn how to:

  1. Define gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.
  2. Describe how to be inclusive in policies and practices.
  3. Distinguish between intention and impact, as well as, ways to better serve clients with marginalized identities.
