Enjoy the Outdoors and Give Future Generations the Same Opportunity

It’s summer so escape the confines of your desk and soak up some sun in the great outdoors. Many take nature’s beauty for granted. This summer, consider being kind to Mother Earth with these difference-making tips.

Get thee to a farmer’s market.
Support your local community when you shop a farmer’s market. You’ll also help reduce transportation costs and gas emissions by buying local. Not only will you purchase a myriad of goods from neighbors, a farmer’s market gives you the opportunity to socialize with friends.

How do you grow your garden?
You don’t have to be an expert to grow your own fruits and vegetables. Gardening is a great way to get some exercise and can be a rewarding family activity. Children will love watching the garden grow through the season. If you don’t have a plot of land, consider renting at a community garden.

Be cool. Plant a tree.
As the temperature soars throughout the summer, so does your electric bill. Planting a tree provides the shade to your house that keeps the inside cooler, giving your AC a break. While you have to wait a few years for it to grow, know that you’re still doing a good thing for the environment.

It rains at dawn.
You want a luscious green lawn for the yard games during the family barbecues. Water your grass at dusk or dawn when evaporation is at the lowest. Additionally, take a look around the house. Technology has made it so we can be more conservative with our water use. Replace showerheads, install water-saving toilets and fix any dripping faucets.
