Show Your Military Appreciation

The month of November is a time to remember those who have fought for our country and who are serving overseas.  The entire month is named military family appreciation month, and with November also comes Veterans Day on Friday, November 11. We’ve all been affected by the military somehow, which helps protect our rights every day. So take this November to show your patriotic spirit and follow these ideas to give back to your community and beyond.

Send Love from Home
You don’t have to know someone overseas to show your appreciation for his or her service. There are many opportunities to send a care package or even just a letter expressing your gratitude. It may not be much to you, but it could mean the world to soldiers who may not hear from home. With the holiday season fast approaching, this is the perfect time to show a little extra appreciation. Look online for sites like www.anysoldier.com to locate a specific soldier. Don’t know what to send? Operation Shoebox recommends sending that leftover Halloween candy you still have around.

Partner with a Nonprofit
Many businesses and nonprofits are looking to help support those serving overseas. Ask your favorite nonprofit if there is any service you can offer to military families. But even if you can’t relate your volunteer work, you can still show your appreciation by having others sign letters to send to troops.

Find a Family in Need
There are families everywhere dealing with loved ones who have been deployed. There are also many families dealing with the struggles of becoming a temporary single parent. Find a family in your neighborhood where you can offer your assistance. Prepare a meal, help with yard work or even just ask if there are any tasks where you could offer help. The families will be grateful for a caring community, and you can help celebrate military family appreciation month.
